ROVING (2015)

This work draws formally from fungi, moss and decaying growths that occur in nature, forms that are constituted of multiple individual units that vary in size and distribution, usually lacking order and direction. Through translating source images of such forms into soft sculpture, I am interested in creating a fascinating surface and texture that encourages curiosity and a multitude of responses – visceral, bodily, intimate, natural, artificial, chaotic, ordered.

A continuation from roving (2015), this work seeks to create a closed, intimate environment in which a haptic relationship with texture can happen. Through the creation of a dome structure in which textiles deriving from moss forms spread, the singular experience in this darkened dome creates unique responses in individuals.
